Overview

The only route with hut accommodations. Best For: Climbers preferring comfort and a shorter trek.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Meet your guide, attend a briefing, and relax before the climb.

Day 2: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut (2,700 m)

Hike through lush rainforest and spot blue monkeys and birds before reaching Mandara Hut. Option for a short walk to Maundi Crater for views of Mawenzi Peak.

Day 3: Mandara to Horombo Hut (3,720 m)

Continue through moorland with views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Horombo offers the first glimpses of the snowy summit.

Day 4: Horombo to Kibo Hut (4,700 m)

Cross the saddle between the peaks through an alpine desert landscape. Rest early in preparation for summit night.

Day 5: Summit Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

Start at midnight, climbing through rocky terrain to Gilman’s Point and finally Uhuru Peak. Enjoy sunrise views, then descend back to Horombo.

Day 6: Horombo to Marangu Gate to Moshi

Descend through the forest, collect your certificate, and return to Moshi for relaxation and celebration.
